MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - At least six families are homeless after an overnight fire that destroyed part of an apartment building in the Memphis community of Cordova.

WMC-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1myHtot) Memphis firefighters arrived just after midnight on Tuesday to flames shooting into the air from a third floor roof.

Fire crews were able to contain the fire to one apartment building, but several units were damaged.

Fire officials said everyone made it out of the building safely. A fire wall helped prevent the blaze from spreading even further.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced families.
