NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Newark Police have arrested a man they say assaulted an officer and three other people in a convenience store parking lot.

It happened about 5:15 p.m. Monday at a Wawa on Ogletown Road. Officers say a man approached a woman, cursed at her and punched her in the face, knocking her down.

Police say the attacker and the woman’s co-worker got into a struggle. Authorities say a police officer saw the struggle and got out of his cruiser.

Police say the man ran to the officer and punched him in the head, knocking him down. Authorities say a civilian went to the officer’s aid and was punched by the man.

The officer and others chased the man and apprehended him.

Twenty-seven-year-old George Johnson is charged with assault and other offenses.
