DIAMONDHEAD, Miss. (AP) - Diamondhead Casino Corp. has named a new chairman of its board.

Ted Arneault, former chairman of MTR Gaming Group, will replace longtime Diamondhead Casino chairman Deborah Vitale, who is stepping down.

The Sun-Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1jBQ4XB ) the announcement came in a news release Wednesday from the casino company.

Mayor Tommy Schafer also said plans for a casino resort are back on the table.

Mr. Arneault knows the casino industry, knows the Gulf Coast market, recognizes the potential of this project and, of utmost importance, has successfully taken casinos form the ground up before,” Vitale said.

Schafer said the planned resort is set for Diamondhead’s east side. He said he had few details, but, “This is news, this is a press release, this is economic development.”

“Hopefully, most of you see it as some type of good news,” Schafer said. “Whether or not it happens, I don’t know, but if we have action, sometimes action breeds reaction and we need a hotel and we need some type of development.”

Diamondhead Casino owns 404 acres along Interstate 10 and the Bay of St. Louis in Diamondhead and has worked for years to get a casino resort there.

Arneault said Diamondhead is one of the last, great gaming opportunities in the country.

“The site is recognized in the casino industry as one that is expected to grow the entire Gulf Coast market because of its sheer size and the numerous amenities it could support,” he said.
