ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A licensed practical nurse has pleaded guilty to neglecting a blind 73-year-old resident with Alzheimer’s at a nursing home.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said Tuesday that in February 2013 David Klaproth was assigned to care for a resident with a feeding tube at the Wingate at Dutchess nursing home. Klaproth admitted he failed to administer a hypertension medication, as well as a protein supplement and a multivitamin although he knew they had been ordered by the resident’s doctor.

As part of the plea agreement, Schneiderman said Klaproth, of Poughkeepsie, surrendered his nursing license and was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and a $1,000 fine.

A representative of Wingate Healthcare said Klaproth was fired after the misconduct was discovered and the patient suffered no harm.
