PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A southern South Dakota man accused of pressuring a relative to withhold information from authorities investigating a sexual assault case has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The U.S. Attorney General in South Dakota on Wednesday announced the sentence against 21-year-old Ian James Burning Breast. He had pleaded guilty to a witness tampering charge.

The Parmelee man was also ordered to five years of supervised release.

Authorities say Burning Breast sexually assaulted a relative in January 2013. The relative reported the abuse, and later Burning Breast was recorded on a phone call improperly pressuring the relative to withhold information from investigators.

Authorities say Burning Breast was paroled on November 2012 for another crime, moved to the Rosebud Indian Reservation and didn’t comply with the terms of his release.
