COLCHESTER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont Public Television President and CEO John King is leaving the station.

VPT announced Wednesday that the board had chosen Charlie Smith to be interim president and CEO immediately.

VPT says Smith’s background is in commercial banking and state government.

Vermont Public Radio reports (https://bit.ly/1goRH5D ) that the station did not say why King is leaving or if he was fired or stepped down.

The move comes more than a month after an internal investigation found that the board violated federal requirements by failing to notify the public that private meetings had been held. The review by the board’s audit committee was triggered by an anonymous complaint in December. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting also was investigating.

The board says the station will retain its federal funding from the CPB.
