FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) - Officials say a 41-year-old woman severely burned in a fire at her Fall River apartment last month has died.

Fire Capt. Neil Furtado says Anderson Mar-Desjardins died late last week at Rhode Island Hospital, where she had been taken in critical condition after the fire in the early morning hours of March 24.

Furtado tells The Herald News (https://bit.ly/1ebKoOL) that Mar-Desjardins suffered burns on more than 60 percent of her body.

He says the blaze was an accident caused by a candle that ignited a couch in the apartment’s living room.

The woman’s boyfriend was also burned in the blaze but has since been released from the hospital.

Damage was estimated to be from $75,000 to $80,000.
