LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - Texas authorities are investigating the death of a driver who allegedly struggled with a trooper before she shot and killed him.

Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Bryan Witt says the driver of a Cadillac was being arrested for failing to identify himself after being pulled over early Sunday for a routine traffic stop just south of Lubbock.

Witt said the man began to struggle with the trooper near her driver’s side door before she shot him.

The man, whose name and age Witt said had not been determined, died a short time later at a Lubbock hospital.

Two other people riding with the man at the time of the traffic stop were released after giving statements.
