HARTFORD, Ala. (AP) - Two men face attempted murder charges after a state trooper was wounded in a shootout.

Alabama Highway Patrol spokesman Trooper Kevin Cook tells The Dothan Eagle (https://bit.ly/1eUECqP ) 23-year-old Zachary Taylor Wood of Glenwood and 21-year-old Dillon Scott Rafsky of Enterprise are suspected of shooting Trooper Lee Phillips during a Saturday evening traffic stop.

Authorities say Phillips pulled over a vehicle for a traffic violation around 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The vehicle stopped abruptly and one of the suspects fired at Phillips, hitting him.

Phillips, Wood and Rafsky were all taken to hospitals to be treated for gunshot wounds. Cook says Wood and Rafsky were later taken to the Geneva County jail and charged with attempted murder. It wasn’t immediately clear whether they have lawyers.

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
