SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Prosecutors say two Spokane County Jail inmates are accused of trying to escape by using a homemade tool to dig a hole in a wall.
Court documents say the inmates are accused of fashioning a tool out of toenail clippers, a strip of cloth and a towel rack and digging a hole that measured 4 to 8 inches in length and 2 to 4 inches in height. They reportedly camouflaged their work with toilet paper, toothpaste and cardboard.
Jail staff found the hole last weekend. Jail Lt. Michael Sparber tells KREM-TV that the wall did not lead to the outside.
KHQ-TV reports Jeremiah Logan and Jason Cooper were in court Monday to face escape charges.
