FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) - Authorities are crediting the “brute strength” and teamwork of firefighters in freeing an elderly man who suffered severe injuries after becoming pinned between the door of his pickup truck and the vehicle’s chassis, which was wedged against the doorjamb of a garage.

Officials say neighbors called 911 shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday after hearing someone call for help and finding the trapped man.

Firefighters considered using mechanical devices to extricate the man, but resorted to “low-tech brute strength teamwork” to free him from the tight area. He is being treated at a local hospital.

Fairfield police are investigating the accident, whose cause wasn’t immediately known.
