LAGRANGE, Ga. (AP) - An ex-detention officer in western Georgia has been sentenced to five years in prison for selling drugs and other contraband to a county jail inmate.
The LaGrange Daily News (https://bit.ly/1eXAoyy) reported Monday that 40-year-old Angel Rafael Vargas was sentenced late last week after pleading guilty to marijuana possession with intent to distribute, three counts of furnishing prohibited items to an inmate and bringing contraband into the jail.
Troup County sheriff’s spokesman Stewart Smith told the newspaper that Vargas, of Columbus, sold the inmate marijuana, rolling papers and cellphone charger.
Vargas has also been ordered to serve five years on probation after his sentence.
