MADISON, Wis. (AP) - A legislator making a longshot bid for governor says he’s planning to have someone in a chicken suit follow Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Mary Burke around.

Rep. Brett Hulsey, a Madison Democrat, announced Monday he’ll enter the race. Three other Democrats are vying for the party’s nomination, including Burke, Hariprasad Trivedi and Marcia (MARH’-see-ah) Mercedes Perkins. Burke, a former Trek Bicycle Corp. executive, is the clear front-runner.

Hulsey on Tuesday challenged Burke to a debate in each of Wisconsin’s 72 counties. He says he expects Burke will decline. Then he plans to have a volunteer in a chicken suit and T-shirt that reads “Too Chicken to be Governor” follow Burke around wherever she goes.

A Burke campaign spokesman didn’t immediately respond to an email.
