Vermont firefighters say a brush fire in St. Johnsbury scorched 9 acres and came precariously close to the northbound lane of Interstate 91, electrical transmission lines and a neighborhood.

No one was injured battling the wind-driven blaze late Monday afternoon.

Fire Chief Troy Ruggles told the Caledonian Record (https://bit.ly/1lzkusD ) that the fire was probably sparked by embers from a scrap wood burn at a nearby residence.

Ruggles said the owner had extinguished the burn pile but suspects the wind might have stirred up some hot embers.

Firefighters and a total of 17 fire trucks from Vermont and Littleton, N.H. responded to the fire.
