TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - An ethics bill that would have imposed state standards on local entities is no longer being considered. Instead, interested parties have agreed to meet later this year.
The bill’s sponsor Sen. Joe Abruzzo, D-Wellington, says a meeting later this year will include invitations for input from ethics commissions in the city of Jacksonville, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach Counties, the League of Women’s Voters, Common Cause and Integrity Florida.
The measure has been criticized for attempting to impose a statewide standard to local ethics oversight. A Florida watchdog group referred to the bill as an anti-ethics measure.
The House counterpart to the bill (HB 1315) will also be pulled.
