AMES, Iowa (AP) - The family of Ames Mayor Ann Campbell says the central Iowa leader’s medical condition has improved.

Campbell was upgraded Friday from critical to serious condition at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. She is scheduled to be transferred out of the Intensive Care Unit.

Campbell was taken to the hospital Tuesday after suffering a heart problem. She later underwent a procedure to relieve a coronary blockage.

Doctors say Campbell was placed under sedation for 36 hours as part of her treatment, but she has since been sitting up and communicating. Brian Campbell says his mother will need to rest and refrain from phone calls and visits.
