PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Residents of a Providence neighborhood say they’re frustrated and worried about a large illegal dump that has hundreds of used and unused hypodermic needles, along with piles of car tires, old beds, televisions, computers and other junk.

People who live near the dump at Cranston and Waldo streets told WLNE-TV (https://bit.ly/1fdzaix ) that it’s been there for years and they’re calling on the city to clean it up and take possession of the property.

Cranston Street resident Isaiah Thomas says the dump attracts animals and “pestilence,” and it’s a fire and health hazard for all the adults and children who live near it.

City officials say they are looking to condemn and seize the property. City Councilman Wilbur Jennings says there already are several tax liens on the property.
