LODI, N.J. (AP) - Officials have suspended a Lodi High School teacher with pay after he pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from what authorities say was an alcohol-related crash that critically injured a Bergen County Police Department officer.

The Record newspaper (https://bit.ly/1tJL7ka ) reports the school board voted 8-0 to take action against math teacher Michael Ettz on Thursday.

Authorities say Officer Daniel Breslin was assisting another officer when the crash occurred early Saturday. Authorities say Ettz’s vehicle rear-ended the officer’s vehicle, causing it to strike a utility pole.

Breslin remains in critical but stable condition. He’s on life support and is in a medically induced coma.

A vigil will be held at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church at 8 p.m. Friday.
