DEADWOOD, S.D. (AP) - A tourism consultant will be back in Deadwood in May to help the city establish a brand and increase tourism in the Northern Hills community.

Mayor Chuck Turbiville signed Deadwood’s Branding, Product Development, and Marketing Action Plan this week, which will bring the consulting firm Roger Brooks International back to the city.

Several Deadwood organizations anted up to fund Brooks’ additional efforts in the city. Brooks worked with the city earlier this year, pointing out issues with parking and the town’s unclear identity.

Brooks and his team will conduct interviews and hold sessions to develop strategies to increase tourism and business in Deadwood in an effort to rejuvenate the city.

Deadwood Marketing Director Lee Harstad told KOTA Radio, “they may not be big changes, they may not be Earth-shattering changes,” but said that he hopes that with Brooks’ help they can bring Deadwood “to the next level.”
