DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - A 24-year-old Dubuque man has pleaded not guilty to a charge in a fatal crash earlier this month.

The Dubuque Telegraph Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1hxZFhH ) that Alex Hannan entered the plea Wednesday in Dubuque District Court. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 22.

The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Department says Hannan was driving on an onramp to U.S. 20 near Farley, Iowa, in the pre-dawn hours of April 6 when he struck and killed 21-year-old Dawson Besler, of Epworth. Besler was walking in the roadway when he was hit.

Hannan was arrested on a charge of first-offense operating while intoxicated.

Hannan was released from Dubuque County Jail after paying $1,000 of a $10,000 bond. No other charges related to the crash have been filed against Hannan.
