COLUMBIA, Md. (AP) - Howard County Police say a man is dead after being struck by a car in the parking lot of the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia.

Police say it happened Friday night at around 10:15 p.m. Police say the driver of a 2008 Chrysler Sebring was backing up from where his car was parked in a grass lot when he struck the man. Police identified the man as 42-year-old Erick Jon Girardin of Baltimore.

Police say the driver of the Sebring was not intoxicated at the time of the collision and that they are looking into the possibility that Girardian was lying on the ground just prior to the collision.

Police say they believe that both the driver and Girardian were attending the M-3 Rock Festival being held at the pavilion.
