SANDERS, Ariz. (AP) - A decades-old bridge that crosses over Interstate 40 in Sanders is set for demolition.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says a newly constructed bridge on U.S. 191 has been open to traffic for several months. The old one now must be demolished.

Work on the project begins Monday and is expected to last through May 2. Crews with be working day and night, resulting in some traffic diversions, narrowing of lanes and short delays.

The Transportation Department also built two other bridges on U.S. 191 to widen traffic lanes and provide a sidewalk for pedestrians. The realigned highway allows to easier access to side streets and businesses, and includes new guardrails and street lights.
