DETROIT (AP) - Volunteers plan to converge on Detroit’s Belle Isle for a spring cleanup and the transfer of koi into a pond outside the island’s aquarium.
The annual events are Saturday.
Volunteers helping with the Belle Isle Aquarium’s koi transfer effort will bring a new 5-gallon bucket or a new 20- to 30-gallon plastic tote with a lid.
Food and drinks will be provided to those who help.
The work comes a week ahead of the start of the annual citywide Motor City Makeover cleanup. Mayor Mike Duggan says volunteers are being sought for the event, which runs May 3, 10 and 17. Each year, thousands of people take part. Dozens of neighborhood groups are involved.
