Lehigh Acres, Fla. (AP) - A southwest Florida baby is hospitalized after being injured during a car crash. The 15-month-old child was not restrained at the time of the accident.

Deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit were called in Saturday morning to investigate the crash on State Road 82.

Bryan Stevens was driving a 2004 black Chevrolet 1500 when he crossed into oncoming traffic and struck Victor Perez Gomez’s 2000 red Ford 150. The two trucks collided nearly head on, but alcohol did not play a role in the accident.

Albertina Ortiz Gomez and 15-month-old Anna Marie Gomez were riding in the backseat of the Ford and suffered serious and life threatening injuries.
