ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The state of New York is giving nearly $800,000 to local governments and non-profit organizations for tree plantings and other environmental projects.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office announced the grants on Friday in celebration of Arbor Day.

The money will go to 34 cities, towns and nonprofit groups from around the state to support tree plantings, urban tree management plans and storm water management projects.

Most of the individual grants are worth several thousand dollars.
