EMMETT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - The bomb squad was called after a woman discovered a mortar shell in a Calhoun County home.
WOOD-TV says Emmett Township police were called around 10 a.m. Sunday for a report of an explosive device.
The woman had been going through the belongings of her late fiance. She told a friend who is a veteran about the finding, and he told her to call police because it could be dangerous.
The Battle Creek police’s bomb squad eventually was called, and members took the shell to another site to perform a controlled demolition.
According to WWMT-TV, the artillery shell was from the World War II and Korean War era.
