ROCKWELL CITY, Iowa (AP) - A 115-year-old railroad freight house has been moved from a farm back to its original location adjacent to the Rockwell City depot.
The Fort Dodge Messenger reports (https://bit.ly/1hL6Ize) the freight house was moved about 20 years ago to a nearby farm.
It was donated back to a group that oversees the Rockwell City Depot in October 2013. The group Landmark Depot Preservation raised $4,000 to move the freight house.
When built in 1899, the depot was used to hold luggage after it was checked at the depot. The buildings served the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway.
Carol Hupton, president of the preservation group, says a $5,000 grant is paying for a new roof and renovations to the windows.
Plans call for using the freight house as a welcome center.
