GALESBURG, Ill. (AP) - The public is being asked to help determine the best route for a new electric transmission line that will stretch from Galesburg to Peoria.

The (Galesburg) Register-Mail reports (https://tinyurl.com/kddkh4b) that Ameren Transmission Co. of Illinois wants to find the “smartest route Possible” for the 345,000-volt Spoon River Transmission Line, scheduled to go into service in 2018.

The company is holding open houses, including one on Tuesday.

Ameren officials say they want people to comment about what they like or dislike about certain proposed routes for the line, and to suggest improvements.

Company officials say one of the project’s goals is to help deliver more renewable energy to customers.

The company says it’ll make route recommendations this summer. Then it could take another year to get Illinois Commerce Commission approval.
