BETHEL, Alaska (AP) - One adult has died in a house fire Tuesday in Bethel.

KYUK reports (https://is.gd/ZgyKxs) fire department officials didn’t immediately release the victim’s gender.

Fire officials say they believe there were at least four people inside the home when the fire started. One escaped, and two others were evacuated and hospitalized for evaluation.

George Young, Bethel’s fire chief and acting police chief, said authorities weren’t immediately sure there wasn’t another person inside the home.

All children that might have been home during a workday afternoon have been accounted for.

Young says the cause of the fire is highly suspicious, based upon a conversation with a woman who was in the house and how quickly the fire spread. The state fire marshal is en route to Bethel to investigate.
