ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - A Colorado photographer who says a Sherpa saved his life on Mount Everest is among about a dozen photographers trying to raise money for the Sherpa community following this month’s deadly avalanche.

Pete McBride of Basalt told the Aspen Times (https://bit.ly/1mUbL8r) that the photographers have all worked in the Himalayas and depended on Sherpa guides. They are offering signed prints for $100 each through the website sherpasfund.org through Wednesday. They say the proceeds, after printing and shipping, will go to the Sherpa community.

McBride is offering a photo of a lone climber descending Everest’s Valley of Silence. Soon after taking it, he says he fell into a crevasse and barely caught himself from falling farther. He says Mingma Sherpa “plucked” him out, laughing nonchalantly.
