COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Former Clemson defensive lineman Cory Groover died Sunday from injuries sustained in a car accident last week.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said the 31-year-old Groover was involved in car crash and spent several days in the hospital before passing.

The Columbia Police Department said the crash occurred April 23 and involved a dump truck.

Groover attended Hannah-Pamplico High School in Florence County and was a defensive MVP in the 2001 Shrine Bowl, contested annually between the top seniors from North and South Carolina.

Groover played at Clemson in 2004 and 2005 after attending Southwest Mississippi Community College. He started five of the 22 games he played for the Tigers, finishing his career with 52 tackles and two sacks.

After college, Groover played for regional indoor football teams.
