OLIVETTE, Mo. (AP) - A private developer wants to build a large sports complex in a St. Louis County public park.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (bit.ly/1hNmz4H ) reports that the St. Louis Sports Centre project in Olivette would feature three indoor ice rinks, two outdoor lacrosse fields with artificial turf and a medical building in Warson Park. BWB Sports would lease the park land from the city.
City Manager Barbara Sondag said elected leaders are considering the project. The city has endorsed pursuing economic impact studies paid for by BWB Sports.
Some residents objected to the proposal’s size at an Olivette Economic Development Commission meeting Monday night. The complex would cost $25 million and cover 150,000 square feet. Including paved parking, that would reduce green space in the 29-acre park by 500,000 square feet.
