BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - The U.S. Forest Service plans to conduct nearly 20 prescribed burns within the next month on the Sheyenne National Grasslands in southeastern North Dakota.
Officials say fire is essential to maintaining healthy native grasses and prairie habitats. Between 4,000 and 5,000 acres will be burned on the Sheyenne Ranger District.
The burns will be conducted as weather conditions allow.
