DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) - A Florida-based boat manufacturing company is planning to create about 100 jobs at a new Dothan facility.

Glasstream Powerboats announced plans to open a southeastern Alabama plant on Thursday. The Dothan City Commission appropriated $1.55 million toward the project and the Houston County Commission is planning to spend $250,000 and help do site preparation work.

Glasstream founder Kruis Retherford tells the Dothan Eagle the company was looking for a skilled workforce and suitable state and local government partners.

Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce President Matt Parker says the Panama City Fla.-based company will receive state economic incentives and a job training package worth about $1 million.

The news comes after a poultry processing company announced plans to lay off more than 500 workers at its Dothan plant by early June.
