SALEM, Va. (AP) - LewisGale Regional Health System says about 40 patients’ private information has been breached and a former employee is under investigation.

LewisGale tells media outlets that the employee has been terminated. The individual had access to patient information that’s protected by the federal privacy law.

LewisGale says the affected patients have been notified of the breach. They are being provided complimentary credit minority through a national credit reporting agency.

The Salem-based health system also has set up a toll-free call center for patients who have questions.
