WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - Police in Winston-Salem have arrested a woman after her 3-year-old twins were found locked in an apartment bedroom and covered in feces and urine.

A statement from police said officers responding to a report of a gunshot at an apartment noticed a door knob to an upstairs bedroom was tied to the staircase banister with a shoe lace. When they opened the door, they found the children alone. Police think they may have been in the room for several days.

The twins, who were discovered last Saturday, were taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and found to be dehydrated and possibly malnourished.

Police said 22-year-old Betrice Monique Tribble is jailed under $6,000 bond, charged with misdemeanor child abuse and resisting arrest. It’s not known if she has an attorney.
