TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - Texarkana will receive a $7,700 grant from the state to develop sites in the Maxwell Industrial Park.

The Texarkana Gazette reported (https://is.gd/p00iJ6 ) Thursday the grant, awarded through the Arkansas General Improvement Fund, will support an environmental study and a wetlands assessment of a 37.5-acre tract in the Maxwell Industrial Park.

The city, its chamber of commerce, the state government and a development district, worked to secure the grant.

The application states Texarkana lacks the buildings necessary to attract new business and the deficiency has caused companies to leave. By studying the land and assuring prospective companies the property is ready, the application claims the city will be able to interest industrial businesses.

Maxwell Industrial Park is located near Interstate 30.
