SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The University of Utah is gearing up for its school-wide graduation ceremony.

The Thursday commencement kicks off at 6:30 p.m. in the Jon M. Huntsman Center.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and U. alumnus Alex Smith will address about 7,900 graduates in the ceremony.

About 54 percent of this year’s graduates are men.

The average age of students receiving bachelor’s degrees is 26. That’s compared to an average of 32 among graduate students scheduled to get their diplomas.

University President David Pershing will lead the Thursday ceremony.

Strategic communication major Janine Henry is the student speaker.

Attendance is free and no tickets are required.
