HOUSTON (AP) - Emergency personnel say an air pocket has saved the life of a driver who “floated” from her car after the vehicle was in Lake Houston for about 45 minutes.

The Houston Fire Department on Friday had no immediate condition for the woman. Firefighter Kenyatta (ken-YAH’-tuh) Parker says the woman, whose name wasn’t immediately released, was conscious when transported Thursday morning to a hospital.

Some people fishing saw the car go down a boat ramp and summoned help.

Sgt. Kim Fonville with the Harris County sheriff’s office says the woman “floated out” of a broken window as the car, in the water 45 to 50 minutes, was pulled from the lake. Fonville says an air pocket saved the woman’s life.

Investigators aren’t sure why the car went in the water.
