EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - A judge says Raritan must pay a media company nearly $600,000 in legal fees spent on a 2009 public records lawsuit.

The Home News Tribune reports (https://mycj.co/OhwAv1 ) Judge Yolanda Ciccone signed an order Tuesday requiring the borough to set aside money for Gannett New Jersey in a separate account even if the borough decides to appeal the case to a higher court.

Borough Administrator Daniel Jaxel says the town has not decided whether to appeal.

Gannett New Jersey - the parent company of the Asbury Park Press, Courier News, Daily Record and the Home News Tribune - sued the borough over access to employee salary and overtime information. The newspapers wanted the data in an electronic format, which would allow them to analyze salary information among many municipalities.
