WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A West Des Moines church employee has reported to police that a congregant stole money from donation bins at her church.

The Des Moines Register reports (https://dmreg.co/1dT5Gq1 ) that the Lutheran Church of Hope employee told a West Des Moines police officer that someone had been suspected of stealing for the past several weeks from collection jugs placed at several locations around the church.

The money was being collected to help build churches in Africa.

On Sunday, the employee reported seeing on a security camera a woman take one of the containers, try to enter a locked room, then grab some cash or checks from inside the container.

No arrests have yet been made, but police continue to investigate.
