SOUTH HACKENACK, N.J. (AP) - Authorities in northern New Jersey say a Long Island man had all the trappings of a police officer except the job.
South Hackensack police say they found dozens of fake police badges and IDs when they arrested 48-year-old Scott Geddes of Lynbrook, N.Y., at a motel on Thursday.
Police say they also found a loaded .357 handgun in his waistband and a car equipped with strobe lights, sirens, police scanners and a camera.
Police say the motel clerk became suspicious when Geddes identified himself as an officer.
Police Capt. Robert Kaiser tells The Record (https://bit.ly/1dXTVhI ) newspaper authorities don’t know where Geddes got the badges and aren’t aware of him committing any crimes as a result.
He’s charged with impersonating a police officer and faces weapons possession charges.
