GRAFTON, W.Va. (AP) - The public beach at Tygart Lake State Park will reopen next month after being closed for six years for renovations and to meet safety codes.

The Division of Natural Resources says the beach’s opening on Memorial Day weekend is contingent on the hiring of lifeguards and the lake water meeting quality tests.

An old steep, slippery concrete beach has been replaced by sand. The bathhouse, picnic and game areas have been renovated. Kayak rentals are being offered starting this year.

While the beach was closed, overnight park guests were allowed to use Grafton’s swimming pool.
