WEST, Texas (AP) - Construction of a new nursing home in West is underway after a deadly fertilizer plant blast last year destroyed the previous one in the small Texas town.

The Waco Tribune Herald (https://bit.ly/1ehkfhA ) reports the facility is being built at a different site and will have 25 fewer beds than West Rest Haven, which was in the shadow of the West Fertilizer Co. plant that exploded last April.

The blast killed 15 people, injured 200 others and caused an estimated $100 million in damage.

Most who died were first responders. But authorities also included in the death toll an elderly man who died after being evacuated from West Rest Haven.

The new nursing home is scheduled to open next year.
