BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - The U.S. Postal Service has released new forever stamps that show a number of songbirds including the western meadowlark, considered North Dakota’s bird.
Illustrator Robert Giusti of Bridgewater, Conn., depicted each bird. Some appear perching on a fence post or branch embellished with vines, pinecones, leaves or flowers.
The mountain bluebird, western tanager, Baltimore oriole and painted bunting are among the birds shown in the stamps.
The states of Oregon, Montana, Nebraska, Wyoming and Kansas also use the western meadowlark as a symbol.
