ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A 48-year-old Anchorage man has been sentenced to 43 years in prison for assaulting and raping a woman one year ago.

A jury on Dec. 6 after a three-week trial convicted Ronald McIntosh of two felony sexual assault counts and three felony assault counts. He was sentenced Friday.

Investigators say McIntosh in April 2013 strangled the woman and struck her with fists and a studded belt. She escaped by climbing out the window of McIntosh’s apartment.

The shoeless woman at 1 a.m. was spotted on the Old Seward Highway trying to flag down cars. A passer-by assisted her.

Prosecutors say McIntosh had been convicted previously of more than 30 crimes including felony theft and drug offenses.
