CADDO PARISH, La. (AP) - A Caddo Parish man took matters into his own hands when rapidly rising water from weekend rains threatened his home near Cross Lake.

James Cox told KSLA TV that he figured a culvert near his home was clogged. So, he jumped into the 5 foot deep cold muddy water with a crow bar to unclog it. Cox got the water flowing again - just enough to spare his house.

While Cox did what he felt he had to in that moment, experts strongly advise people not to get in or drive through flood waters.
