DALLAS (AP) - A federal grand jury is investigating state purchases of land for expansion of Interstate 35E in North Texas that benefited two Dallas real estate dealers.

Texas Department of Transportation spokesman Bob Kauffman confirmed to The Dallas Morning News (https://bit.ly/1e4GVXF ) that federal authorities are investigating land purchases made by two businessmen who then sold the land back to TxDOT at a significant profit.

Kevin Bollman and Wade Blackburn say they used public information about planned TxDOT projects to make their purchases.

According to property records, Bollman purchased 1 acre in Lewisville in 2011 for $2.2 million, then got $3.5 million for it from TxDOT a month later.

Both men deny any wrongdoing.
