MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) - Authorities are trying to find out who’s tearing up the ground in the Lake Mitchell area.

City Parks Director Dusty Rodiek tells The Daily Republic (https://bit.ly/1ioSqGD ) that four-wheel-drive vehicles are leaving tracks in the wet, soft ground. He calls it “a muddy, unsightly, ugly mess,” and he says it’s essentially an act of vandalism.

Rodiek says it can cost thousands of dollars to repair damaged areas. He says dirt needs to be hauled in, the ground needs to be leveled and grass needs to be reseeded.

He’s asking anyone with information to contact police.
