TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - A measure to ensure that all health clinics are licensed and inspected by the state is moving forward in the Florida Senate.
The bill (SB 746), sponsored by Sen. Eleanor Sobel, D-Hollywood, passed the Senate Community Affairs Committee Tuesday by a 9-0 vote.
Current law allows some clinics, including many that accept only cash, to apply for a licensure exemption. The concern is that many clinics are escaping oversight by using various loopholes in the law. A clinic qualifying for an exemption pays a $100 fee, while other clinics pay $2,000 for a license.
The bill is aimed at more than 500 anti-aging clinics in the state and would also apply to the dozens of so-called “med spas,” where patients can get anything from human growth hormone to plastic surgery.
